Kidney-cropThe business is located in the Ulundi area within Zululand District Municipality. Ulundi is a rapidly developing town that services a thriving rural community that flock into it for government and other services. The business has subsequently branched out with a renal unit in Nongoma that started offering treatment in August 2014.

Nephrology is a speciality of medicine and pediatrics that concerns itself with the study of normal kidney function, kidney problems, the treatment of kidney problems and renal replacement therapy. This involves dialysis which in effect is the replication of the kidneys’ functional role by artificial means. There are two types of dialysis – Haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. The type of dialysis used depends on many factors, such as age, access to resources, overall health and lifesyle.

Haemodialysis in particular requires a minor operation to allow access to blood circulation, usually through the wrist or chest. Blood is then removed from the body, cleaned by an artificial kidney attached to a machine and then returned to the body. Each treatment lasts between four to six hours, and is required to be done three times a week to prolong and improve a patients life or until a kidney transplant donor is found.

The business offers kidney dialysis treatment and counselling services to the population of Ulundi, Nongoma, Mahlabathini, Melmoth and surroundings. The business is offering its services to diagnosed patients and offers counseling to patients who are referred by doctors identified during public check-ups and through health awareness campaigns.
